About Sergio

Sergio Oliva Jr. is an American bodybuilder who comes from a family of athletes. In fact, if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s because it is—his father was the well-known Sergio Oliva, the person who earned the nickname “The Myth” after having been named Mr. Olympia three times!

Though his father preferred that Oliva Jr. would become an athlete, he wasn’t about to let his family influence his decisions. Instead of going into athletics, he became obsessed with bodybuilding and continued to chase it.

Despite the initial hesitation from his father, the two ended up developing an incredibly strong bond with Sergio Oliva helping his son become a better bodybuilder over time. His father would help him train, find the right diets, and give advice when Jr. felt discouraged by the profession.

Since chasing his dream from a young age, Sergio has gone on to receive many different awards and nominations for his work. However, this does not mean that he hasn’t had tumultuous moments throughout his career. For example, it was revealed that Sergio Oliva Jr. took an entire year off of bodybuilding once he learned that his wife was cheating on him, news that undoubtedly changed his relationship to his career.

This is just one of the many moments where Oliva Jr. showed that he is dedicated to his craft, sure, but at the end of the day his life is incredibly important. By not separating his personal life from his work, he can truly put his passion into what he does and be the best bodybuilder he can be.

As we mentioned earlier, Sergio Oliva Jr.’s diet is largely influenced by his father’s methods. His father raised him to understand nutrition from early on, encouraging him to consume healthier proteins and fats to make sure his body can develop properly. As with a lot of bodybuilding diets, this is also incorporated into a diet that focuses on the daily nutrients with little processed foods or sugars, if any. It is also a necessity to only drink water, as other types of liquids might do more harm to your body than good.
