The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike combines features and programs that help you meet your fitness goals and a variety of workouts, levels of challenge, and social interaction that will help you have fun and maintain your interest.
You can set up profiles for up to two users, recording each person’s name, age, height, gender, and workout goals. You can set goals for the number of calories you want to burn, the length of time you want to be able to exercise, and the distance you want to be able to cover during your workouts. With this information in its memory, the Schwinn 230 provides accurate readouts of the calories burned. This high end recumbent bike also stores the results of each workout so that you can compare your results and track your progress with Goal Track. When you use the Fitness Test program, the bike uses your age, weight, and the fitness level you choose – beginner or advanced – to calculate your fitness score.
The Schwinn 230 offers 20 levels of computer controlled, magnetic resistance and 22 preset workouts. In addition to the beginner and advanced fitness tests, the bike has a quick start program and eight programs that monitor your heart rate and adjust your workout to maintain the heart rate goal that you select.
The nine profile programs change the resistance to simulate the changes in terrain. You can choose among three fun rides – a ride in the park, a ride over rolling hills, or an easy tour; three mountain terrains – Mount Hood, Pike’s Peak, or the Egyptian pyramids; or three challenges — one program for interval training, one for cross training, and one that features an uphill finish.
If you choose, you also can exercise without using one of the preset programs.
With this many options, you should be able to find a workout that you’ll enjoy each time you use the bike, and you’ll also be able to adjust your workouts as your fitness improves.
The 2017 Schwinn 230i model makes your workouts more fun by syncing with the Schwinn Fitness Trainer app and the SocialRider app that you can install on your smart phone or tablet.
The free, mixed reality RideSocial app for iOS and Android lets you choose routes in locations all around the world and interact live with others using the same route at the same time. Some routes even offer 360 VR views of the route. Use Bluetooth to connect your phone or tablet to your Schwinn 230i as you use RideSocial to enjoy the full mixed reality experience.
The Schwinn Fitness Trainer app pairs with RideSocial and Apple Health. It uses Bluetooth to sync the workout data from your Schwinn 230 with MyFitnessPal. You can connect with your training partners and with virtual coaches, keep a journal of your progress, and receive achievements and awards that recognize your progress as you meet your personal goals.
The Schwinn 230, however, lacks Bluetooth connectivity. So, it is not compatible with these two apps.
While the angle of the seat can’t be adjusted, the easy adjust lever lets you easily change the position of the seat on the slide rail to accommodate users of very different heights and leg lengths. The plastic seat is contoured for comfort and lumbar support and perforated for ventilation. A built-in, three-speed fan also helps keep you cool while the water bottle holder, which can be mounted to the left or right of the solid steel tube frame, helps you stay hydrated.
The Schwinn 230 provides two sets of handholds. A set of ergonomic handlebars is located by the monitor, and another set of handgrips is located by the seat. The handlebars beside the monitor contain the heart rate sensors.
The Dual Track monitor is positioned for easy viewing and offers two LCD screens. One displays your progress through your exercise session while the other tracks your progress toward meeting your goals.
Use the media tray to hold your tablet, phone, or MP3 player, and use the USB port to keep your devices fully charged. The Schwinn 230 has built-in, in-console speakers so that you can listen to your favorite music as you ride.
Schwinn assembles as much of the bike as possible in their factory. When it’s delivered, it comes in a long box, and you may want someone else on hand to help you move the package. One person can assemble the bike alone, but having another person to hold some of the heavy pieces in place makes assembly faster and easier. The tools you need come with the bike.
When it’s assembled, the bike measures 64” L x 27.7” W x 49.9” H. It weighs 81.6 pounds, but it does have wheels on the front to make moving the bike easier. The frame safely accommodates users up to 300 pounds. You can use the bike without plugging it into an outlet, however an outlet connected to a standard US 110V-120V circuit is needed to power the bike’s features, including the magnetic resistance. When deciding on a location for the bike, keep in mind that it comes with a very short 3’ cord. It also comes with a 90V-240V, 50-60Hz AC power adapter.
